Pick the format by what's in the picture

JPG is lossy and suits photos, but it has no transparency. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which suits screenshots, logos and text.

WebP and AVIF support both transparency and lossy compression; MDN puts lossy WebP at 25–35% smaller than JPEG and AVIF at about 50% smaller. AVIF output only appears if your browser can encode it.

What changes in the conversion

Transparent areas become white when saved as JPG, because JPG can't store transparency. An animated GIF is converted from its first frame only.

Re-encoding removes EXIF metadata, including camera model, date and GPS location. That's useful before posting a photo publicly; keep the original if you need that data.

Converting can't add quality

Turning a JPG into PNG makes a bigger file but doesn't undo the JPG's compression. Converting a PNG screenshot to JPG makes it smaller but can blur sharp text edges.

BMP files are uncompressed, so converting them to PNG (lossless) shrinks them with no change to the picture.

Questions

Can I convert SVG to PNG or JPG?

Yes, if your browser can open the SVG. The result is a fixed-size pixel image, so it won't stay sharp when enlarged the way the SVG did.

How many images can I convert at once?

There's no set limit; it depends on your device's memory. Download the results one by one or as a single ZIP.

Why is AVIF not in the output list?

AVIF appears only when your browser can encode it. You can still convert AVIF files to JPG or PNG.
