Only the audio track is kept, so the file shrinks a lot
The converter opens the video container (MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV or MPEG-TS), takes the audio track and discards the picture. The output size depends only on the audio bitrate and the length, not on the video's resolution.
Size is bitrate × seconds ÷ 8. A 3-minute clip at 192 kbps is 192 × 180 ÷ 8 = 4,320 kB, about 4.3 MB (counting 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes). The page shows this estimate before you convert.
192 kbps MP3 suits most uses; WAV is for editing
128 kbps is enough for speech such as lectures and voice notes, 192 kbps (the default) suits music on phones and earbuds, and 320 kbps is the highest bitrate the MP3 format (MPEG-1 Layer III) allows.
M4A holds AAC audio and plays natively on iPhone and Mac. WAV is uncompressed, about 10.6 MB per minute for 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo, so choose it only when another program needs uncompressed audio.
Converting can't make the sound better than the video's
The audio inside a video is already compressed, usually AAC in MP4 and MOV, and Opus or Vorbis in WebM. Turning it into MP3 is a second lossy step: 320 kbps keeps what is there, but it can't restore detail the video never had.
Use the trim handles to keep only the part you need. A shorter range means a smaller file and a faster conversion.

Questions
Can I convert a YouTube link?
No. This tool only converts files that are already on your device and does not download from YouTube or other streaming sites. YouTube's Terms of Service don't allow downloading content except where YouTube itself offers it, such as offline viewing in the YouTube app with Premium.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding uses your browser's WebCodecs and the MP3 is made by the LAME encoder compiled to WebAssembly, both running on this page. The result is saved straight to your device.
Why did a long video fail on my phone?
Everything happens in the device's memory, and phones have less of it. Trim the range first or use a computer for very long or high-resolution files.
Why won't one of my MKV files open?
MKV can hold many different codecs, and the browser can only convert the ones it can decode. If a file uses an audio codec your browser doesn't support, the conversion can't start.
